      Thomas Jennings is the new kid in town, and San Francisco of 1953 is quite a town to be new in. A young, FBI Agent out of Cleveland, OH, Jennings arrives in a city being drenched in the blood of some of its most affluent, and most crooked citizens. Mob bosses and their families are being slaughtered left and right, and Jennings, along with his partner and the other jaded older agents are tasked with finding clues to stop the carnage. Jennings is the best shot in the bureau, but that won't matter a hill of beans if he can't overcome the dark fear and anxiety that is eating at his soul day by day. The wolves are at the door, and Jennings had better decide quickly if he is the predator or the prey.

    Ande Parks gives us a by-the-numbers classic crime-noir, tale of G-Men, mob bosses, and the bloody scenes that naturally manifest when those two are thrown into the mix. Agent Thomas Jennings is a fresh faced kid with a horrific anxiety issue that is about to be thrown into a world that will change him forever, and we get to watch it all unfold. Will he bend, or break...Or will he do the breaking? Esteve Polls' competent pencils create an atmosphere that takes you back into the heyday of the mob. Although the story was interesting, it lacked something that really made me care enough about the story to continue reading the series. I have a feeling that there is more to Jennings than meets the eye, but too little was revealed about him the first issue for the reader to really connect or be intrigued. However, if you are a fan of typical crime-noir, you won't want to miss this story. It is by no means a bad way to burn 8-10 minutes of your day.
